Today the Friends of Sabeel North America (FOSNA), a Christian voice for Palestine, issued this statement congratulating New Orleans BDS activists for their victory:
Today, after a year of campaigning and community pressure, the New Orleans City Council unanimously passed a resolution to implement a socially responsible investment screen on the municipal level. The campaign was led by the New Orleans Palestine Solidarity Committee (NOPSC), who are pushing for the city to take part in the global BDS movement. Passing the resolution brought them one step closer to that goal.
The resolution was sponsored by Councilmember and Mayor-elect LaToya Cantrell. The bill “encourages the creation of a process to review direct investments and contracts for inclusion on, or removal from, the City’s list of corporate securities and contractual partners.” This could mean the removal of BDS targets such as Caterpillar and Hewlett-Packard Enterprise (HPE), both of which operate in New Orleans.
