“The Syrian government’s use of chemical weapons to indiscriminately kill at least 1,429 Syrians – including at least 426 children – cannot and will not go unnoticed.
“As a senior member of the House Armed Services Committee, I have been briefed by Obama Administration national security officials and am closely monitoring the situation.
“The decisions we face go far beyond Syria’s borders. I am deeply concerned about the risk of not responding to this violation of international norms, especially in light of North Korea’s and Iran’s access to the same type of weapons. However, the course of action we take must be in the best interest of the United States and we simply cannot entangle ourselves in Syria’s civil war.
“Any action going forward must be based upon constant communication and meaningful consultation between the White House, Congress and most importantly, the American people.”
